The sun shines bright in Lafayette year round, so make sure you always remember your sunglasses for your eye health. As your Lafayette Eye Doctors, we want to stress the importance of sun protection. Sun exposure can contribute to cataract formation, eyelid skin cancer, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). 12.6% of Americans aged 40 and older have (AMD).1 Dr. Rabin, a local resident of Lafayette, always wears sunglasses outdoors to protect his eyes. Sunglasses can also provide some eye protection when doing yard work if goggles are not available.
Various lens tints can be used to help enhance contrast and visual perception. When mountain biking on Lafayette Ridge and in Briones Regional Park Dr. Rabin’s personal preference is for a wide frame with a mirrored dark amber tint lens. This helps shield the eyes from debris and provides ample sun protection of the eyes and eyelids. While playing tennis at Acalanes High School, he prefers aviator size sunglasses, but with either an amber or grey tint. When biking in Joaquin Miller Park, the dense redwood trees create shadows that require a lighter amber tint. The lighter tint helps to see obstacles and protect the eyes, but not impede visibility.

Reviews
โMy husband went in for his yearly eye exam and two weeks later, Dr. Rabin called him, stating that he wasnโt satisfied with one of his test results, so he sent him for an MRI. If he didnโt do this, we would have never found out that my husband had a tumor on the lining of his brain. Even the Neurologist told us we had a great eye doctor! Thank Dr. Rabin for taking that extra step; so thankful!โ
